Honestly? By personal experience! First gig, gifts from friends/girls, vacations… that kinda thing. It’s the ‘High Fidelity’ of shirt collections ;)

Unfortunately anything worn by me has to be sealed in a lead container and fired into the sun as soon as I take it off…

Not to sound like every "IN MY DAY" pillock but I miss when Terratag used to just put out Gundam and the odd Macross shirts, along with a plethora of other material, now they're just putting out stuff I don't think is very inspired any longer. Still eager to get one of their old shirts with the Bandai logo spraypainted on.

Totally, when they were just starting out they had some really cool stuff, and the colabs they did run were all on theme, but I think the graffiti stuff has weakened the brand tbh. Glad I managed to get in early - still want one of the original ‘Asimov’ designs though!

A WHITE SHIRT!

I KNOW! What’s going on?

This is a Testament shirt, who for my money were one of the few truly top-notch thrash groups going.

I got this during a show at the much-missed Astoria theatre in Old London town. The band’s brobdingnagian frontman Chuck Billy had recently got over cancer.

I say got over, he’d actually beaten it to death with it’s own shoes. Look at the picture of Chuck above. This pic was taken one month after Chuck had chemo.

He’s a f**king monster, he really is.

Anyway, all I know is, it was a good show, and afterwards we all went to the club that features in the Prodigy’s Smack My BitchUp video.Something happened to apply a brown stain to the shirt which I’ve never been able to remove.

OK, so this is a promo shirt for the supremely nerdy ‘Earth X’, a comic book detailing the possibly future of the MArvel Univers.

I told you it was geeky. On the other hand, it did feature some lovely art by Alex Ross, that went far beyond the big red X I’m modelling above.

It also had a really gnarly update on Daredevil’s costume. And.. erm… Thor. As a woman. For some reason.

Anyway, there wasn’t really any related musicfor this, so I thought I’d play you some Racer X, who are nearly as ridiculous.

Happy days are here again eh? What with the sun shining, the birds swaying and the trees singing, it’s definitely time to don apparel suited for the funeral of a particularly depressed donkey isn’t it?

Case in point -this number by Stockholm metallers Katatonia.

not to be confused with Cerys Matthews and the more generally Welsh Catatonia. I know -who’d have thought it would be possible to be more depressing than a Welsh band called catatonia? Somehow these wacky Swedes managed it.

I’ve been trying all morning to remember where I got this. Apparently I found it in my ten at a festival. Which means it might not be mine. Which means it belongs to someone else who was in my tent.

This shirt is size XXL.

Occasionally, a poor memory is a blessing.

yeah yeah I know, I sure am a suave muthaflippa aren’t I? How could any lady resist a bright orange Seps shirt with the sleeves ripped off? It’s no wonder I have to fight girls off on a daily basis.

To be fair this started life as a proper shirt, but I had it on at Donnington in about 1993, and it was well over 100 degrees that day.

Luckily there was a nice girl on one of the cigarette trucks who lent us some scissors so that we could adapt our clothes to the weather, and spend the rest of the day laughing at Marylyn Manson fans with heat exhaustion. The bloody fools -take off your trenchcoats!

Erm, so Sepultura… well, they weren’t ever really my fave band, but they were allright for about five minutes in 1990, and created possibly the biggest traditional (read dancing, not fighting) mosh pit I’ve ever seen.

Ah Dio, you really did rock for a very long time didn’t you? In fact some reports have him playing trumpet back in his uncles big band in the 50’s„ which put’s little Ronnie’s actual age up for debate -is there an award for oldest headbanger?

Sadly, the leather-lunged elf (not a phrase you get to use often) passed away last year, and I can honestly say he was one of the nicest blokes I ever met (in rock n’ roll circles at any rate). Also -he was TINY!. Like, tiny tiny. I did have a pic of me next to him somewhere, and he barely tops my knees.

Still, despite the diminutive stature, you’ve got to respect someone who spends $100,000 (and that’s 1982 dollars honcho) on a giant dragon.

Growing up in the rural south west, it was sometimes difficult to find shirts featuring your fave bands. Solution? Make your own.

Filled with juvenile joi de vivre, I made this, it’s a line from an Anthrax song, and hey -it glows in the dark!

Well, it used to, as you can see from the pics, it doesn’t anymore…

ahem, anyway, it’s not like we aint down with the gosh darn bad language round these parts is it, ya gosh darn muddy funsters, so quit being offended.

To be honest I never really was a big fan of Anthrax, but hey, they were on ‘Married with Children’ once, so that’s kinda cool isn’t it?

That’s right, it’s another booze shirt -this time a Captain Morgan’s rum affair that I believe a kindly girl got me for Christmas one year -how well she knew me.

Anyway, I didn’t take a picture of me wearing it because when it arrived, it was extra, extra, extra large. Like, American XXXL you know? An elephant would have room to grow in this thing.

Still, if you’re a lady and you stay at my house, you might well get to wear this about in the morning .

Now technically a card-carrying ginger like myself shouldn’t be wearing red, but what the hey, Daredevil may not be the most awesome superhero out there, but he’s a redhead, his name’s Matt, and he’s almost definitely had sex with Jennifer Garner, so he get’s extra points in my book.

I went through a phase of buying Graffiti Design’s superhero shirts a few years back (lots more to come, you lucky people you), and this was one of the first -basically I got it to gain geek kudos, because the movie hadn’t come out at this point, and I figured hardly anyone would know who Daredevil was.

Here’s a song about being daring, which is pretty much all I could find.

Did you ever buy an album based solely on the cover?

I have an almost uncontrollable urge to do this at times. This is why I own albums called things like ‘Swamp Donkey respirator’ and ‘all robots report to the dancefloor’.

Basically, I’m an idiot.

So obviously, I couldn’t resist getting Sinner’s “The Nature of Evil” could I?

Look at it! It’s got possible the worst werewolf you’ve ever seen,. he looks like he’s just had sex with a can of pedigree chum.

Anyway, this shirt unfortunately isn’t from that album, but one of the group’s much earlier, giant hair and spandex atrocities. But hey, it was in the bargain bin at a festival for one euro, and I was bloody freezing -it’s a long sleeve.

that said, it’s not a bad album at all.

Ahem. veterans of the ‘rungagudada rungagadudu, every song sounds the same’ school of death metal, Unleashed are still teh awsumz in my book, and way more stoopidly fun than Amon Amarth.

According to their Youtube reviews they are “A band that kicks a lot of asses -not just one!!”

I once met Sammy Hagar you know. He’s EXACTLY how you’d expect him to be -more trousers than human, twisted and evil.

Actually that’s not entirely true, but he was a bit shouty and out of it.

This is from their F>U>C>K (oh VH, you saucy troublemakers you!) tour Waaaaay back in 1991. In fact, this album came out so long ago that the band were still quite good!

Yep, the sun is shining, I’ve spent most of the weekend dancing, so what better way to celebrate than sticking on ‘The Emperor’s Return’ and mulching about in my own existential despair for a few hours.

Of course, you never could quite tell if Celtic Frost got the joke or not, but hey, tom G. Warrior wears a funny little beany hat to hide his bald patch these days, so who am I to naysay him?

Anyway, I got this at a gig a while back, and I definitely wore it all weekend at the last Bloodstock festival. It almost definitely attracted Swedish girls in large numbers. Good work Frost!

Back when I was at school I once beat some dude with a crap beard called gary at this in the seafront amusement arcade -no mean feat as it was ‘winner stays on’ and he’d been in there for eight days straight -suffice to say his attendance record wasn’t perfect.

Anyway, the Hadouken fireball is pretty cool isn’t it? And if you look really closely you’ll see that this shirt features joystick movements to help you defeat M Bison at your leisure…
